Do you ever feel like that? Like you’ve completely run out of things to write about relevant to your business?
We want to do everything right when it comes to promoting our businesses, don’t we? We read what the “experts” proclaim is the next big thing in marketing and we limp along trying to play catch up and sometimes feeling…well, overwhelmed. And to make matters worse, we are supposed to be clever authors, able to write about amazing and interesting things to keep our audience engaged and interested on a regular basis. But…
What if I’ve run out of things to write about?
While that’s what it often feels like, it is most likely not really true…what IS true is that it is hard for us to see our professions from the eyes of our patients/clients. It turns out that topics we take for granted end up being an excellent source for an interesting topic to people outside of our professions. Things you may have thought were silly or mundane may, in fact, be exactly the information that your audience is craving. Keeping the content on your business website fresh, relevant and engaging is important and it doesn’t have to be torture.
Here are a few ways to find topics to write about.
- Have regular meetings with your office staff and pick their brains. You will be surprised at how many great ideas they will come up with.
- Invite your office staff to submit occasional posts for your website. While they should maintain the “voice” of your brand, they can certainly share their own personal “voice” on topics that excite them.
- Ask your audience…your patients/clients/customers…what topics they would like to see addressed. Again, you will be happily surprised to see what topics they find interesting.
- When in doubt, recycle old posts. Assess your analytics and find a post that seemed to create the most interest and re-introduce the post. You can re-post the original with a header that explains your decision to re-post or you can tweak and update an older post that seemed to strike a chord with your audience.
Don’t despair when it seems as though your writing muse is on vacation. With a little help from your friends or a little post tweaking, you should be able to cobble together an interesting and relevant post for your website. You haven’t REALLY run out of things to write about…you just THOUGHT you did!!
