Help Me…I’m Drowning

SocialMediaDDS Help Me

I’ve got ten tabs open on my computer this morning and I feel a little bit like this guy….

…and today is a “slow” day.

Do you ever feel like screaming “Help me…I’m drowning”?

Is trying to keep up with all your desired tasks overwhelming?

After having juggled the responsibilities and craziness of owning businesses for many *cough* years now, I usually have a sense of rhythm in the balancing act and can prioritize my activities.  But sometimes, even a seasoned entrepreneur gets overwhelmed and wants the craziness to slow down a bit.  So, how do I decide how to balance my chaotic world? If you promise not to tell, I’ll share my super secret organizational tricks.

  1. Paper and pen.  Yup.  I know.  Totally un-cool in this digitally saturated world but, first and foremost I always start out with paper and pen to write down an outline for the day, the week, the month and even the year.  Writing it down allows me a very visible means of seeing how all of my plans will fit (or not fit) before I commit to them or incorporate them into my next steps.
  2. Evernote.  Coolest software and app ever!  Once I have created my written outline, I can then organize and prioritize my schedule and tasks and even my ideas using Evernote‘s neat and intuitive platform.  I can create Notebooks for every aspect of my life.  I can create tags to keep things within Evernote oh-so-neat.  I can record spontaneous brilliance when I’m on the run with their smart phone app.  If you can’t tell, I completely adore Evernote! I’ve only touched on it’s awesomeness here.  I highly encourage you to check it out for yourself!
  3. Producteev. I am a relative newcomer to Producteev but, in a very short amount of time, I have come to love this task management system.  I can create workspaces and invite others to join my workspace and thereby allow myself to assign tasks to others.  I am reminded of tasks that are due and can prioritize them into neat little subcategories if I so choose.  Producteev and Evernote have given me a great organizational one two punch!

These are the methods that currently work for me to keep my sanity in check and to minimize the chaos.  While I still have those days when I feel like I am spinning plates, at least with my organizational method, I now have some sense of control.  I hope that these super secret organizational tricks (shhh)  can help you out as well!

@WordsDoneWrite Hah!  And so apparently I AM able to make it "appear" that I have it all under control....;-)  All those years of being fascinated with this guy's plate spinning have paid off....that and a little help from old stand bys (pen and paper) and excellent technology!

So nice to see you Amber.  Thank you for your wonderful support!

I cane as quick as I could with a lifejacket Claudia! Augh- if you feel like that guy you're in trouble :o

I'm a paper-and-pen person myself but I'll check out Producteev since you mention it! Thanks!

@Lori Hahaha...thank you for your attempt to rescue me Lori!  Did you get the Ed Sullivan Show up in NB in the 60's?  That plate spinning guy was always one of my favorite guests...I was drawn by the frenetic nature of the act wondering if he could really pull off balancing so many plates.  It translated later in life to my desire to keep those plates spinning and to make it seem effortless.  Paper and pen is my first and favorite tool but, in my mobile life, I am grateful for technology's gift in the form of Evernote and Producteev.  Let me know what you think about Producteev.

And, thank you so much for stopping by!

@SocialMediaDDS @Lori We had the Ed Sullivan show!

Producteev looked interesting but a bit overwhelming in the state I'm in. I think I'll stay with pen and paper for now!
