I saw this video last week because someone posted it on a group that I am part of on Facebook. I don’t even know the person that shared this video…as you have probably realized by now, I happen to think that that’s one of the really cool outcomes of social media engagement. But let’s peel this onion together here. I am on Facebook. I promote my businesses on Facebook. Because of my “tech-y” abilities, I am invited to join a Group on Facebook that is for women who are tech savvy. I don’t “know” all of these women but, we share information….we share questions…we learn from each other…we learn together. A fabulous opportunity. One of the members of this Group shares a video that she likes…it has relevance to our Group…it has relevance to some of the Group conversations. I check out the video. I really like it…it has relevance to my business model. I “favorite” this video on my YouTube page. I have never met the person who did this video…I have never met the person who shared this video. And yet, I am connected to each of them because I am passing the information along on to you. And you? You might feel that this video speaks to you as well and you may choose to share it with others. Pretty amazing, huh?
So now, let’s imagine for a moment. Let’s say that you join Facebook. Let’s say that you create a Facebook Page for your business. Are you with me so far? Now let’s say that as you get more comfortable with your Facebook presence and you join a couple of groups that are pertinent to you…maybe a dental group. And let’s say that you write an article for your website blog. And let’s say, further, that your blog posts are shared on Facebook automatically by either Social RSS or Networked Blogs (both of which we will discuss in detail in a future blog). And let’s say that one or more of the members of your Group on Facebook really like your blog post and share it with their friends and followers on Facebook. Do you see where this is going? This is the power of social media today? I tell two people and they tell two people and so on and so on and so on….
Watch this video. Share it if you like. But, mostly, think about the potential. Think about what you can be doing with growing your business’ visibility by utilizing the power of social media. It is pretty compelling.
